I AM WHAT I AM
This was from way back when I first started painting regularly. In fact, it might be the second or third painting I ever did that I really consider to be a part of my body of work. There is a companion piece with my face on it, but it’s very poorly done and I don’t have decent photos of it, so until I fix the face to make it more recognizable, this piece will stand alone.
First I did the skull, then I taped over it, then I used masking fluid to write “I Am” on the canvas, then I just spraypainted it and used a chisel to smear it all around. Peel off the masking fluid and masking tape and here you have it. A messy early foray into art!
