The Space Chase started many moons ago as a geometric exploration. I was looking at doing a spiral but using hard geometric shapes in stead of smooth lines, and then using a bunch of different colors. But I hated how it turned out, it was nauseating to look at and a bit overwhelming so I just let it sit for 4 months until I finally got sick of looking at it in my basement. I simplified the pattern to what you see now and felt comfortable with it. Then I felt like I had to add something, so I added a spaceship. I was actually going to add Spaceman Spiff, the character from Bill Watterson’s masterpiece Calvin and Hobbes, but I decided to just try to use his style and make my own instead.

It has the right amount of fun and weird that I really like in a painting.
