The Mother Load

On 7/26, The Mother Load art exhibition took place at Studio 4 in Bloomfield to great success. The gallery was crowded and full of smiling faces there to take in the art and have an enjoyable night. The art was thought provoking and led to a lot of questions. Below is the synopsis of the premise of the exhibition.

The show title “The Mother Load” is a combination of the terms “mother lode” meaning a bounty or cornucopia, and “pay load” meaning an explosive warhead, carried by a missile. The Mother Load Exhibition tells a comprehensive story using the artist’s recent works. The story telling for this show draws inspiration from a couple of seminal works of science fiction - The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury and iRobot by Isaac Asimove. Both writers tell their story in the form of vignettes, giving only glimpses of a story and allowing you, the reader (or, in this case, viewer), to piece together the entire story as it develops.

This show encompassed the artist’s current fascination, marking a shift away from bright, pop art creations with well defined lines and posterized colors, and towards a more dystopian, apocalyptic, retro-sci fi style of art.

Many of these paintings were either conceived or painted outside of the US over the course of the past 5 years, the majority having been completed in either Saudi Arabia or in Spain. The artist was inspired in many ways, by the landscapes, the architecture, the color palete (which is notably different in different countries), and also by the perception of the US and the world from a perspective outside of the United States.
