Atardecer en el Apocalipsis (#3)
Atardecer en el Apocalipsis (Sunset in the Apocalypse) - the third in the Apocalypse Series - is a hauntingly beautiful exploration of love and endurance set against a backdrop of loss and devastation. The painting depicts an elderly couple walking hand-in-hand along a beach at sunset, their silhouettes bathed in the warm, golden light of the setting sun. The sky is a masterpiece of color, with soft pinks, deep oranges, and rich purples blending together in a scene of breathtaking beauty. Yet, this idyllic moment is contrasted sharply by the dystopian reality of the beach they walk on—littered with the tragic forms of dead whales.
The juxtaposition of the tender, enduring love between the couple and the grim surroundings creates a powerful commentary on the resilience of the human spirit. The couple’s calm, unwavering presence amidst the chaos of the dying world around them speaks to a lifetime of shared experiences, weathered hardships, and a love that has endured even the darkest times. The whales, once majestic creatures of the sea, now lie as silent witnesses to the planet’s decline, their massive forms a stark reminder of the cost of neglect and environmental decay.
This giclee is printed onto high quality, Innova Rough Textured fine art paper which is 315gsm (gsm = grams per square meter, it means the paper is thicker/heavier). Almost all of my printing is still taken care of by my friends down at PGH Print Ship, a great local print shop who does fantastic work.
