I had the idea for this painting for a long time, I like the idea of 2 separate realities which you can’t really access. One girl’s glowing flower thingy is another tree’s root system. Plus the ethereal other dimension fantasy feel was a lot of fun to work on even though there was no actual background like in my usual paintings. 

Like many of my paintings - I started this with a full head of steam and then petered out after a few days. So this one did spend a good month on the easel without me touching it before I finally rediscovered the inspiration. The gold leaf was a fun little accent because the rest of it is so dark.
